INTRODUCTION

Definitions
Notes:

  • Precise definitions are important for Child Safety Experts and Authorities.
  • But you don’t need to be that precise.
  • If in doubt – report it. If not in doubt -  then definitely report it!
  • Reporting can be a report to authorities or a report to your Team Leader / Nominated Supervisor / Manager.
Information:

Now you don’t need to get too hung up on definitions. Precise definitions are important for Investigators, Child Safety Professionals, and law courts – but you don’t need to be that precise.

We advise that you err on the side of caution and if in doubt then don’t worry about defining it - report it. Of course if you’re not in doubt about it being abuse – then definitely report it!!

You can do no harm by over reacting – but you could risk a child’s safety and your legal position by failing to act.
