CHILD PHYSICAL ABUSE
Physical Abuse Includes (3)
Notes:
Physical abuse also includes:
- using an object to cause harm eg throwing a stick, electrical device for shocking or stunning, tying up or tethering.
Information:
Perpetrators often use objects to cause harm – such as straps, belts, cords and sticks used as weapons, or throwing things such as furniture, sticks, and shoes etc.
Use of electrical devices such as cattle prods to stun or shock the child is also physical abuse – as is tying them up or tethering them.
CASE: two little boys aged 5 and 7 were tied to their beds regularly and zapped with an electrical device by their stepfather – and his excuse was that authorities had already told him he wasn’t allowed to hit or punch the children. This particular case became the catalyst for the introduction of the offence of torture into Queensland law.
