CHILD PHYSICAL ABUSE

7. Parent Isolating a Child
Notes:

Parent isolating a child

  • from Day Care or School or friends and family
  • to hide injuries or prevent disclosure
  • keeping child home until bruises or injuries have faded or healed
  • look for absences that coincide with healing injuries.
Information:

One thing we saw often, and which was a reliable indicator of physical abuse, was Parents or Caregivers keeping their children home from School or Day Care until after bruises or injuries had healed or faded.

If you notice a child returning after an absence and they have a healing injury or other signs of physical abuse then you should make a note of those concerns. If these absences, that coincide with injuries or other physical markings become a pattern, then you should consider reporting.

Sometimes abusive Parents will isolate a child from friends to simply avoid dealing with having outsiders in their home, or to avoid risking their child talking to others about what is happening to them.
