As Parents, Carers or adults working with children, we all employ Child Protection strategies every day to protect children from accidental harm.
To prevent accidental harm we put strategies in place that are proactive – that is – they are in place before we need them. We put on sunscreen and hats, keep sharps, poisons and hot stuff, out of reach, check that helmets and seatbelts are done up tight, fence off pools, make playgrounds safe, keep kids off the road and supervise them appropriately.
We also ensure our first aid training is up to date, and first aid kit is well stocked so that we can deal appropriately with any harm that occurs.
We often do these things without thinking – because they have become second nature to us. These are all things we would expect of any person who is responsible for the care of children.
