The Standards, Laws and Regulations make it clear that:
- you have a responsibility, legally and ethically, to act to protect children from harm caused by abuse.
- you need to be aware of your role and responsibility to respond to every child at risk of abuse or neglect.
Information:
The National Quality Standards, Laws and Regulations make it clear that you have responsibility for protecting children from harm. Remember our definition of harm – it includes emotional and psychological harm, and it can be caused by child abuse.
Prescribed matters - physical and/or sexual abuse of a child
As an Approved Provider you must notify the regulatory authority of certain matters occurring while a child or children are being educated and cared for by the Service.
From 1 October 2017 this must include:
- any incident where you reasonably believe that physical and/or sexual abuse of a child has occurred or is occurring at the Service
- any allegation that sexual or physical abuse of a child has occurred or is occurring at the Service.
