National Quality Framework
Regulation 84 of the Education and Care Services National Regulations states:
84 Awareness of child protection law
The approved provider of an education and care service must ensure that nominated supervisors, staff members, volunteers and students at the service who work with children are advised of -
(a) the existence and application of the current child protection law; and
(b) any obligations that they may have under that law.
Penalty: $1000.
Note. A compliance direction may be issued for failure to comply with this regulation.
WHAT does this regulation mean??? Simply put, laws change and sadly new types of child abuse come to light that have previously been undetected i.e Shaken Baby syndrome.
You NEED to stay up to date with these changes and the best way to do this is by completing courses from reputable Child Protection educators and receiving certificates to prove that you have completed such courses. ACECQA recommend that you do this training on a regular basis.
REGULAR can best be defined as every 12 - 18months. Remember that laws change so often that you need to REGULARLY complete Child Protection training to stay up to date - to meet your Civil liability, duty of care and legal responsibility as well as meeting the requirements of Regulation 84 of the Education and Care Services National Regulations.
